I read about this probably about 10 years ago. I recall sending a note to the Ministry of Tourism asking what the heck is being done about this? The fellow who discovered this site, Sungbo's Eredo (of course nah Oyinbo man 😪) Some reports refer to this as Africa's largest historic man made structure, and yes the Pyramids are in Africa, so this is possibly bigger? But check out the videos below, one from 2019 where the site appears largely unkempt and not cared for! Emm, hello, does the Nigerian government know the significance of the possibility of the Queen of Sheba being from and buried in Naija? Nobody want to know if dis is fact or fiction? Anybody checking this out, and even if a myth, the structure is simply stupendously impressive! Ade Olufeko, thank you jare!
Now this is a rather interesting short documentary thanks to Nubia Africa
Africa's LARGEST CULTURAL MONUMENT...? Seriously people?
See our Naija mentality...
The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has awarded a grant of $400,000 for the conservation of the late 14th century Sungbo Eredo Earthworks of the Yoruba Ijebu Kingdom in Nigeria. This is the largest Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) grant in Nigeria and the second-largest in sub-Saharan Africa.
Why, why, why? The US Mission is giving Nigeria money to investigate and preserve ITS OWN culture and history!? Ewele! Nah wah, so you mean to tell me Naija can't find $400k? There are no Naija Philanthropists with a spare $400k? Oga Hushpuppsi, maybe you should divest...😉
Back to being serious, we have a few billionaires and millionaires in Nigeria, Dangote, Otedola, Folorunso Alakija, in all countries, the government cannot do it all and alone. I am sure in one month, the three notable Naijapeople above spend more than $400k. Even Hushpuppi sef? (Meanwhile about about Naija demand all Hushpuppi's money and use to develop this site, I mean its a good cause now, or any more Abacha loot left?) I am so sure there is a foundation (or there should be one) that can manage donations to develop that site, including proper studies and verification of the history and excavations by archaeologists. As the interviewer in the short documentary asks, what about here clothes et al? They are probably buried deep within that area and nobody knows! This is our history, we must preserve and dig further, much further literally!
