Here here! Hahlelujah! You don't say sir!? It's about time our brothers from the north saw the light on this, but coming from a voice so close to Aso Rock? I just about fainted when I saw the headline! First, Kudos to Alh. Daura (or is it Mallam?) for boldly making such a public statement. For a country as talented as Naija, one wonders why we have had this archaic means of selecting the president. For the last election, it was still the "North's turn" so we were resigned to choosing between Buhari and Atiku.

On the clamour for power shift, he said it is time the country united and go for the most competent. “This turn-by-turn, it was done once, it was done twice, it was done thrice. It is better for this country to be one, it should be for the most competent and not for someone who comes from somewhere,” he said.
Keep in mind there is nowhere in the constitution that requires the presidency to be "turn by turn" . This is yet another creation of the Nigerian political elite who sat among themselves and decided to pass the presidency back and forth, left, right, up down and round and round. In a country where most politicians do not follow any ideology each election is preceded by a mass decampment from the "party in the dumps" usually the ruling party to the party in vogue and the same members of this political elite remain in office, regardless of who sits in Aso Rock. To to great extent this issue of "turn by turn' is a minor issue when compared to the political class getting their house in order.
Now of course, one must always read between the lines on such "profound" pronouncements, such as this, and the the reasons behind this enlightened position. Keep in mind we will soon to getting to the end of the second term of President Buhari, we cannot forget that the presidency should now return to the South and to be more specific, the South East, some might even say Osinbajo as VP deserves his shot. So is this yet another ploy to deny the South East the presidency?
